The mission of VPP is to facilitate the development of effective vaccines for human infectious disease and outbreaks. This includes a comprehensive program of research on the NIH intramural campus, work with scientists in academic and industrial laboratories, efficient translation from research into vaccines materials for clinical trials and licensure by partners through NIH. Since its inception in 2001, the VPP has overseen the manufacture of 40 different vaccine products for HIV, influenza, filoviruses (Ebola and Marburg), and alphaviruses (chikungunya, SARS, and West Nile).
