South Side Lumber INC. in Herrin is a third generation family owned business established in 1946. Claude Smith Sr. and Guy Smith started a company with a 1946 Dodge flatbed and two lots in downtown Herrin, Illinois. In 1951 Claude Smith Jr. and his wife Alice Smith took over control and began to expand toa full service lumber yard. They ran the business for the next 40 years. In 1989, their son Kent C. Smithcame back from Baylor University with an MBA in business and took over the store. South Side Lumbernow serves all of Southern Illinois, employs over 35 people and encompasses many buildingsand areas of property. South Side Lumber now is truly a one-stop shop for building projects small or large.We have everything from blocks to lumber: drywall to blinds, cabinets to caulk. South Side'sKnowledgeable, highly trained staff can assist you in all your building projects.
