Leah's Polar Hugs is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to funding neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), with the necessary medical equipment needed to treat newborn babies born with brain trauma from HIE – Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy. We ensure babies born with HIE have access to the best medical equipment possible to help treat their condition immediately after birth. We work with various manufacturers and distributors to identify hospitals most in need of this life-saving medical equipment. Additionally, we provide support for families currently facing a scary HIE birth by providing gift bags filled with books, toys, and more. When a newborn is too sick for an HIE parent to hold, reading a book to their child is a meaningful way for them to feel connected and involved with their newborn while in the NICU. Leah's Polar Hugs was inspired by the birth of the founders' daughter and seeing how much difference having the right medical equipment and staff in place can make in the outcome of an HIE birth. We believe every baby born with HIE deserves a chance at the best possible outcome regardless of where or when they are born.
