HR Specialist at Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory - Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany
The Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) project is an initiative to build the next generation ground-based very high-energy gamma-ray observatory. CTA will serve as an open observatory to a wide astrophysics community and provide a deep insight into the non-thermal, high-energy universe.CTA will consist of more than 100 Cherenkov telescopes split between one site in the northern hemisphere and a larger site in the southern hemisphere. Together, the north and south CTA arrays will constitute the CTA Observatory, which will be the first ground-based gamma-ray observatory open to the worldwide astronomical and particle physics community as a resource for data from unique high-energy astronomical observations.More than 1,400 scientists and engineers from 32 countries and approximately 210 research institutes participate in the CTA project. CTA was added as an emerging project to the 2006 ESFRI Roadmap of European research infrastructures and as a regular project in the 2008 edition, making it part of the European strategy to guarantee European Scientists access to first-rate infrastructures.
