Porous Power Technologies makes SYMMETRIX® lithium-ion battery separators, which significantly improve the safety and cycle life of large-format lithium ion cells, such as those used in electric vehicles, flat-cell consumer electronics, and other high-power applications.\\Our inert PVDF polymer/ceramic battery separators are stable at elevated temperatures and voltages, while delivering more cycle life and power than competing separators. Instead of applying a topical ceramic coating, we thoroughly distribute ceramic particles throughout the PVDF. These particles reside primarily in the pore walls, leaving a large and uniform open pore structure that enables ions to pass through with less resistance and less heat generation, even in high-rate applications and abusive conditions.\ \At high temperatures that can cause other battery separators to fail, our ceramic-filled battery separators fuse together, leaving a thin film of ceramic particles between the electrodes and reducing the likelihood of hard shorts that can lead to thermal runaway and catastrophic cell failure.\ \Other benefits include reduced battery separator shrinkage, improved puncture and abuse resistance, higher bake-out and operating temperatures.\\SYMMETRIX lithium-ion battery separators are available in a variety of thicknesses to enable many cell configurations and designs.
