St. Christopher's School is a propriatorial school owned by Mrs Jane Kenyon, the Principal. Mrs Victoria Kennington is the Headmistress and is responsible for the day to day running of the school. It is a non-selective school with a Christian ethos. The school is ably supported by an Advisory Board of interested and supportive professionals from all sectors, including Education, Health and the Law.We are a small, co-educational Prep School providing for children aged 3 to 11 years. St. Christopher's was established in 1991 and moved to its present site at Staverton in 1993. The school occupies 19th Century stables and barns converted to provide a delightful setting in which to learn, surrounded by the beautiful South Hams countryside.At St. Christopher's we treat your son or daughter as an individual, striving to discover their needs and abilities while giving them security and a sense of belonging to the community of the school family. In preparing children not only for the next stage of education, but for the wider world, we aim to provide solid foundations based on a clear Christian ethos, resulting in sound values and the ability to make clear judgements.Education is a team effort. We need and expect strong support from home. The family atmosphere at St. Christopher's encourages a happy, co-operative approach including parental access to the teaching staff on an informal basis.Our formal reporting system lies in providing a short progress report at half term and a full subject-based report twice a year. Formal parents' evenings are held in the Autumn and Summer Terms.All pupils are prepared for entrance to Secondary Education and great care is taken to ensure that their transfer to the next stage of education is as smooth and positive as possible.The School has a long record of successfully preparing pupils for 11+ Entrance Examinations to the excellent local grammar schools and Common Entrance Examinations to Public Schools.
