This residence is tucked away in the Shenandoah Mountains, and is designed to comfortably house a couple and parent in-laws. Views of the surrounding mountains are carefully framed, and each wing has its own unique characteristics. The design implements passive cooling strategies combined with active systems, like a glycol solar heated slab, to minimize dependence on the grid. A nod to the vernacular southern dogtrot provides a space for gathering around an outdoor fireplace while simultaneously harnessing breezes from a nearby mountaintop.
