In many efforts to alleviate societal issues and address the issue of poverty, many schools, businesses, and nonprofits often engage in work that oftentimes overlap without intentional collaboration that createsshared-value. This begs the question: Why do we continue to silo ourselves? The unintended consequence ofcreating silos is that wider gaps are created in the lives of vulnerable populations. Who is standing in the gaps to leverage social capital for effective community engagement among schools, businesses, and nonprofits tocreate a supportive ecosystem for vulnerable youth and populations?Founded in 2010, ProAct Indy brings together organizations in the city - helping groups cross social,racial, and economic boundaries - through meaningful, human-centered service projects and social equity training. Providing innovative and unique programs and services to our community, we intentionally connectschools, businesses, and nonprofits to empower our youth and better serve our community. Our diverse and experienced team is driven by the desire to change how youth and communities experience one another as we have engaged over 25,000 Indianapolis residents in human-centered social action through our innovative program model called a "ProAct Community" which addresses poverty and prevents or reduces societal issues and racism by breaking down silos among the education, nonprofit, and business sectors through intentional community engagement. Our work helps sustain and amplify youth voice and action as our youth partner with a professional mentor who provides support, while nonprofits offer service opportunities and volunteer training.
