Minyard Food Stores, Inc. is a retail grocer operating in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. The company was founded in 1932. Minyard growth through the years was fueled by responding to the specific needs of the varying communities served. The Minyard Family owned and operated Minyard Food Stores until the company was sold in 2004 to a private investment firm. In 2008 the company divested itself of the Carnival division and most of the Sack 'n Save division, and laid off roughly 2/3 of the company. In 2010 the company had reduced to 14 stores. In the 3rd and 4th quarters of 2011 the company sold off 11 stores and closed the remaining three. The company name was changed to AVT Grocery, Inc. A staff of approximately 6 are closing out the books and for all intents and purposes Minyard Food Stores, Inc. will have ceased operations after 79 years of operation. Through the decades Minyard had garnered a name in the cities it served as a responsible corporate citizen, and had offered gainful employment to tens of thousands of people in the D/FW Metroplex. The company will be missed by many who called it home and who called it "My Minyard's."
