Kempton & Co. designs heritage inspired, rugged luxe handbags & accessories. Designer, Fiona Kempton was born in 1977 and grew up in rural England. Daughter of a racehorse trainer and jockey, John Kempton, who won England's famous Grand National in 1967, she was exposed to the leather work of saddlery her Father would create, along with his canvas fly fishing bags. Summer‘s were spent with her Grandmother, who had been a court dressmaker for England's Royalty. At the early age of six, she was given an electric sewing machine and her obsession for bag creation began. Equestrian influences have always been an inspiration in her design work; from the distressed leather of her old riding boots, to heavy waxed canvas of the horses' rain rugs, leather straps and buckles, these details permeate her creations. Fiona studied fashion design from an early age and continued her studies at Kingston University, London. From there she moved to New York where she worked for many well known brands over a ten year period. Being the last generation family member with the Kempton name, her decision was to see it live on though the passion from designing her own line of timeless and quality product. The Deceiver bag collection, the first product to launch, came about by her frequent travels for inspiration and work. Tired of taking multiple items of hand luggage when flying, or resorting to the unappealing options on the market, the idea came to design stylish handbags that had an inbuilt protective sleeve for laptops. The collection echoes the edginess of their origin in NYC and without compromise of style and attitude. Now a mother, Fiona has now developed a new luxury baby bag collection, all continuing to incorporate the tech friendly aspect inherant of all the Kempton & Co. styles. Fiona resides in Red Hook, Brooklyn with her husband and daughter.
