About Us StreetCode Academy is East Palo Alto's only tech-focused community center where youth and adults learn industry-relevant technical skills. We leverage the interest and talent of EPA youth already engaged in culturally relevant technology and social media to train youth in 21st century technology skills. StreetCode Academy trains our students in skills ranging from Python to web, and from graphic design to game design. Our staff comes from industry, East Palo Alto and Stanford. Our Vision Research shows that positive youth outcomes are best achieved when education is combined with art and culture, and real-life application. We will host hackathons, workshops and technology classes with innovative embedded curriculum that builds skills in coding, media, arts and professionalism. These activities will be part of an integrated combination of CS and high-tech classes, character and professional development, as well as a community-based hacker space that will foster a culture of innovation to grow students' enthusiasm for learning. Our History StreetCode's founding program, CodeCamp, was an incredible success in its inaugural year. Created by Stanford students and StreetCode co-founders Rafael Cosman '15 and Shadi Barhoumi '17, the camp taught over 50 students to write and design software with the help of over 40 mentors from nearby high schools, universities, and tech companies. Two CodeCamp teams were admitted to the prestigious AngelHack HACKcelerator program. All CodeCamp graduates have now entered the broader support of StreetCode Academy and are thriving. Sequoia Union High School District SUHSD is our partner organization providing the physical space, curriculum mentorship and long term support necessary for this project to thrive.
