Since its beginnings as a one-room schoolhouse in 1885, the Rio School District has been the center of the community for all the families it has served. The District strives to provide world-class education to its more than 5,050 students through five elementary schools, one K-8 school academy, and two middle schools.Families appreciate Rio's small school communities with student enrollments between 500-700 students in the elementary schools and 700 students at the middle schools. Classrooms average 19.7 students per class in kindergarten through third grade, and 26-30 students in fourth through eighth grade. The District is in the process of of implementing a long term master plan and has grown by more than 100 students annually in recent years.
