The San Diego Master Chorale is the region's premier choral ensemble, showcasing many of San Diego's finest singers. Originally established in 1961 as the choral arm of the San Diego Symphony, the Master Chorale became an independent organization in 1979. Still the preferred ensemble for the San Diego Symphony, the Master Chorale also performs with San Diego Opera, La Jolla Summerfest and regularly collaborates with numerous other performing arts organizations, in addition to producing an annual series of concerts featuring the world's greatest choral works.The San Diego Master Chorale is also available for private concerts and has the artistic ability to perform a repertoire ranging from contemporary songs, spirituals, folk songs and musical theatre to opera choruses. OUR MISSIONThe San Diego Master Chorale promotes and preserves the art of choral music through performance, education, and diverse community outreach. Our singers, who are all unpaid volunteers, also participate in the Chorale's active community outreach programs, including on-site music workshops for groups ranging from elementary schools to senior centers. We regularly collaborate with the San Diego Youth Symphony and Youth Philharmonic Orchestra and, in 2012, brought together Canyon Crest and Lincoln High Schools for a unique, multi-cultural choral workshop and performance. RECENT HIGHLIGHTS2012 -Performed under the direction of the celebrated Chinese composer Tan Dun in the West Coast Premiere of his Water Passion according to St. Matthew, lauded by reviewers as the LaJolla Summerfest's "finest hour"in its 25 year history. 2010- Celebrated our Golden Anniversary by commissioning and performing the World Premiere of "To Music", a choral poem by renowned composer David Conte. 2009 - Received the prestigious ASCAP/Alice Parker Award for Innovative Choral Programming, for our debut performance of Daniel Kellogg's "The Fiery Furnace" with the San Diego Symphony Orchestra.
