Radio Tyneside is a hospital and community radio station that promotes health and wellbeing across Newcastle, Gateshead and the wider Tyneside area.We started broadcasting on 6th October 1951 after six Newcastle United fans sitting in a pub came up with the idea of broadcasting match commentaries to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle upon Tyne, which was conveniently situated around the corner from Newcastle's home ground, St James' Park. The football club was approached and, perhaps surprisingly, they agreed. Radio Tyneside's first transmission on the hospital wards saw Newcastle beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1. Now, almost 70 years later, we are broadcasting on 93.6FM, online at www.radiotyneside.co.uk and on Channel One of Hospedia. So why not come and give us a listen? We broadcast easy listening music 24 hours a day 7 days a week with a whole host of speciality shows thrown in for good measure. Want to get involved? We are a charity that is completely run by volunteers and are always looking for new members. Whether you fancy having a go at presenting, know a bit about the technical side of things, or simply would like to help us fundraise, get in touch today.
