Coast 4C is a science-based social enterprise with a mission is to build resilient and vibrant blue economies in marginalised coastal areas that benefit communities, commerce, conservation, and climate by unlocking the promise of the seaweed revolution and the circular economy.Coast 4C (previously Net-Works) is a multi-award winning social enterprise. We have developed an inclusive value chain model for seaweeds and end-of-life fishing nets that benefits the 4Cs: Community, Commerce, Conservation and Climate. To date we have developed and supported 100 families to implement regenerative seaweed farming practices; diverted 267,000,000 km of end-of-life fishing nets from the ocean to reduce marine plastic pollution and ghost fishing and provide a source of recycled post-consumer Nylon 6 for responsible global brands; developed an improved community-based marine protected area (iMPA) approach that has been adopted by eight communities to protect 5,321 hectares of the ocean (up from national average of 16 ha), and; provided equitable access to financial services for 2,015 families in 32 marginalised coastal communities in the Philippines. Many elements of our model has been successfully replicated in Cameroon and Indonesia. We are currently in the process of transitioning from Net-Works to Coast 4C and scaling up the number of households engaging in regenerative seaweed farming linked to iMPAs and our seaweed value chain to supply responsible global brands and create an ocean with more fish and less plastic. We are restoring the potential of regenerative seaweed farming by working with partners to develop new strains and sustainable methods that are resilient to climate change and reduce plastic pollution, and to innovate new processing techniques to access new markets. Our vision is to empower 22 million small-scale fishers to deliver thriving coastal communities and a healthy ocean. You can also follow us on twitter and facebook @coast4c
