Partners in Agriculture (PIA) improves agricultural and construction practices and relieves poverty and malnourishment in Haiti's Central Plateau by supporting three model farms and a vocational school. PIA works with its Haitian sister organizations, Zanmi Agrikol (PIA in creole) and Centre de Formation Fritz Lafontant, which formed in 2004 and 2012, respectively, as part of Zanmi Lasante (Partners in Health in Creole), the Haitian sister organization of Boston-based Partners in Health. Zanmi Agrikol's model farms develop agricultural techniques that perform well in the eroded, nutrient poor soils of the Central Plateau. It also manages the Family Assistance Program which educates local families by disseminating the techniques among local communities. Centre de Formation Fritz Lafontant teaches local post-secondary students agricultural and construction disciplines that empower them and their communities. Since forming as a separate 501(c)(3) in 2013, PIA has substantially grown these programs as a volunteer run organization.
