The Basildon Academies consists of two academies: an Upper Academy focusing upon 14-19 education and a Lower Academy focusing upon 11-14 education. Each academy is designed for about 1250 students who are subdivided into smaller schools of about 450 each. Students mainly stay within their own schools during each day and the school is the primary unit of organisation within each academy. In so far as possible staff are assigned to particular schools and carry out their teaching within that school, so that this gives a smaller more personal experience for staff and students. Each school is further subdivided into colleges of about 150, form groups of about 25 and mentor groups of about 12. Every adult working at the academies has a role in mentoring students.
