Outback Therapeutic Expeditions is a licensed treatment program that utilizes the wilderness as an alternative therapeutic environment to traditional treatment settings, while employing highly sophisticated therapeutic methods. Outback is a therapeutic intervention that encourages lasting change and a new path. Outback has individualized treatment planning, individual therapy, group therapy, flexible lengths of stay, single gender groups, mid-stay parent visit, and direct communication with the student's therapist. Outback's goal is to empower the students by creating the space where they can experience the natural consequences of their own choices. This allows each student to become more aware of their current abilities and limitations as an individual. We help the student identify their patterns, take responsibility for their choices, and accept what they are working with. We encourage the student to recognize the real issues within, while inviting them to choose something better. At Outback, students will see the value in change and change for themselves. Then we teach effective coping skills, specific to the individual and provide the space to hone in these skills. Students characteristically leave Outback with a strong sense of identity, with basic and vital skills to succeed, and motivated because they know what they are capable of.
