NJAFM is dedicated to reducing loss of life and property damage resulting from floods and promoting sound floodplain management at all levels of government. New Jersey has the Meadowlands, the Highlands, the Pine Barrens and the Shore. New Jersey has northern, central and southern regions. But whatever your definition of the area in which you live and work, we are all unified by a hazard that knows no boundaries: Flooding. Flood events are never far from headlines or memories. Floods are the most common natural disaster in the United States, and the costs associated with flood damage continue to rise. NJAFM is a statewide organization of over 150 members. We are also a chapter of the national Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM), a respected voice in floodplain management practice and policy in the United States. Our goals are to heighten awareness of flood risk, to provide education and improve communication to protect public safety, property and the economy.
