Our mission is accomplished through two home mentoring programs and community based and educational programs for families that have elevated risk for child abuse and reside in the poorest communities throughout Dallas and Collin counties. All of our programs are evidence based, voluntary and free of charge. Family Compass believes that every child has the fundamental right to a healthy family and environment, the opportunity to succeed in school and the capacity to experience life without violence.Family Compass was first established as Child Abuse Prevention Center in 1992 as result of escalating incidents of child abuse and a lack of services focused on primary prevention. The agency was founded by more than 400 Dallas Exchange Club members to serve this purpose and bring home to communities throughout North Texas. In 2012 we changed our name from Child Abuse Prevention Center to Family Compass. In November, 2014 we merged with Family Outreach Richardson-Plano (FORP), a 41-year old non-profit with a similar mission, into its organization. The merged organization will provide child abuse prevention services in both Dallas and Collin Counties and operate going forward under the Family Compass name. The value this merger brings to Collin County is clear--enhancing existing child abuse prevention programming with the evidence-based curricula and infrastructure of Family Compass and expansion of services to reach more at risk children and families.Since inception, Family Compass has served over 54,000 children and parents in North Texas. Additionally, all of our primary programs; Parent Aide, Healthy Families and Triple P Parenting Education have received national accreditation indicating that we implement these programs with the highest levels of fidelity. This year, 2022, we are proud to celebrate our 30th anniversary as an agency!
