Science and Math Teacher at International School of Iceland - Charlotte, North Carolina, United States
The International School of Iceland (ISI) is a private elementary school housed in Sjálandsskóli in Garðabær. The school offers an international educational program to children in grades K-10. ISI is a privately owned company with a non-profit mission statement. ISI was last audited by the Ministry of Education in 2010. ISI is pursuing accreditation with The Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA) in addition to The Council of International Schools (CIS). The final accreditation team visit took place in April 2017. Our feedback was notably positive. CIS results will be announced in May and MSA results in October 2017.The curriculum and syllabus for ISI has been developed to suit the needs of an international student body. We are proud to offer two distinct programs, or "streams," at ISI. The English stream is for families whose parents have been temporarily assigned to work in Iceland by an embassy, business or university; typically these families live in Iceland for 3 years or fewer. The bilingual steam is intended for students who live in Iceland on a permanent basis or for an undetermined length of time. The program of study includes English, Icelandic (bilingual program only), mathematics, thematic units from the International Primary Curriculum, gym, swimming, art, textiles and woodwork. Emphasis is placed on meeting students at their academic and developmental level, and stimulating them to progress at an appropriate pace.
