Thirty-six years ago, Summer Program for Youth (SPY) was created to help at-risk elementary aged children in Carlisle grow academically, socially and emotionally over the summer. Since this time, families have come to rely on our program to care for, nourish, educate and enrich the lives of their children.In the beginning our program served less than 30 children and was administered completely by a group of church volunteers. Over the years SPY has made impressive growth and today is a professionally staffed youth development organization known for its quality academic and social emotional enrichment programming with an ever-increasing enrollment. A SPY camper is a 1st-3rd grade student who has been identified by their school counselor as a child who would benefit from added academics over the summer and needs stability and nourishment while not in school. SPY is offered free of charge so that all children who would benefit from our program are able to attend. For 8 weeks during the summer months, Monday-Friday from 8am to 3:30pm, SPY campers engage in stationed academics during the morning and entertaining enrichment activities in the afternoon. Weekly excursions include trips to the pool, visits to the library and other experiences that promise to create memories that will last a lifetime. Breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack are provided to every child as well as the provision of weekend sustenance if needed. SPY's goal is to provide an emotionally uplifting and academically supportive program to as many at-risk children in our community that would benefit as possible. Because we do not charge a fee to attend, we rely on the support of caring and compassionate community members.
