Marjan mega methanol also called as 7th methanol is accomplished for producing 5000 MTPD (equal to 1,650,000 MTPY) in south pars pet-zone 2, located in assaluyeh port on the coastline the Persian gulf in the bushehr province. (The second biggest natural gas reservoir in the world located on the sea border between Iran and Qatar.)Sour gas or natural gas is extracted from the platforms located at the distance of 100 km far from the Assaluyeh coastline to the refineries located there onshore and during sweetening procedure, methane (CH4) is by lateral as the feed-stock obtaining for many petrochemical industries.Methanol (CH3OH) is one of the most widely used chemicals in the world and with high added value. Most of methanol consumption in the world used to produce formaldehyde (35.2%), MTPEBE (23.6%), Acetic Acid (8.6%), Chloro-methane (4.2%), Methyl Amine (2.8%), Fuel (2.7%) and Solvents (2.3%).Over the past years new application s including the conversion of methanol to dimethyl ether (clean fuel), Polypropylene and olefins are expanding. The growth rate of methanol usage as fuel in the recent period is 3 times higher than other methanol derivatives.According to the latest reports, it is expected that annual global demand growth for methanol to be continued with 1.3% per year.However, it is anticipated that the usage of methanol in MTO/MTP plants growing.
