The Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science (MSMS) is the state of Mississippi's only public, residential high school designed specifically to meet the needs of the state's most academically talented students. Students who attend the school, which is located on the campus of the historic Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, Mississippi, spend their junior and senior years of high school living with and working with other bright and engaged young men and women from all corners of the state. For two years in a row, MSMS has been named as one of the top high schools in America by Newsweek and the Daily Beast. The class of 2014 alone has been offered more than $20 million in scholarships to colleges and universities all over America. All MSMS teachers hold a Master's degree or higher within their areas of study. While the school focuses upon STEM education, the school also boasts a vibrant and lively humanities and arts program. When founded in 1987, the school was only the fourth such specialized institution in the country.
