Alice House is a registered charity that provides opportunities for women and their children to create a life free from intimate partner violence by offering safe housing, counselling, and support services. It is different from other organizations because it offers second-stage housing, that is, an interim step between an emergency women's shelter and independent living. Alice House manages 18 apartment units located throughout Halifax Regional Municipality. Since their inception in November 1982, Alice House has won awards from Charity Intelligence Canada, the Better Business Bureau, and the Donner Canadian Foundation.
