Guillermo Jop, head designer of GUiSHEM; was born in Guatemala where he grew up within his family textile business, yet he was more interested in the application of said textiles. He began his studies at NC State where he received his BSC in Textile and Apparel Management. Yet not satised, he decided to moved to Europe and proceeded to get a BA in Fashion Design from Polimoda in Florence, Italy; which was followed by a Post-Graduate certicate in Innovative Pattern Making from Central Saint Martins in London.Once his studies had been nished, he decided to dive into the industry he loved so much. He worked both inEurope and in New York City; with Donna Karan, Zac Posen, La Perla, Un Stile Per Giocare, Textiles P&J. With all this gained experience and knowledge in the dierent areas of the industry he decided to venture on his own. He created GUiSHEM in 2005. And in 2007 in Guatemala he became the Head Designer at Nylontex Internacional where he designed and launched Julie France Body Shapers into the US market while still designing couture gowns under his brand GUiSHEM.GUiSHEM has been part of the Latin American market for the past couple of years, it has focused in the development of couture gowns for fashion forward thinking individuals. In 2008 he decided to expand and created his first ready-to-wear collection for Fall 2009; which focuses on cocktail and eveningwear. His innovative draping and pattern cutting techniques used for his creations are what set him apart from the rest.He has been very successful since his start in Latin America, gaining recognition and dierent awards including La Perla in 2004, Mercedes Benz and Vogue Regional Latin American Fashion Award in 2005; and in Centro America Moda, Best Central American Young Designer in 2007. Also he has been included in the top 10 People of the Year in Guatemala both in 2007 and 2008.
