Industrial Waste Management Association (IWMA) was set up as a Not for Profit Organization in 2002 at the behest of TNPCB.Over a period of years, the Association registered a tremendous growth in membership to nearly 2500 at present.Besides periodic review of the landfill site operation, IWMA conducts Seminars, training programs and offers consultancy services to industries/ industry clusters in partnership with institutions such as Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI), Chennai and IIT-Madras on environmental issues related to air, water and waste management.IWMA has been actively involved in creating awareness among school children in areas of environment, renewable energy, recycling, climate change, water conservation and global warming. IWMA conducts "ENVIRO" program in collaboration with Science Olympiad Foundation for school children. Competitive events like Collage Making, Just a minute, Debate, Poster Making, Best out of Waste are held to promote the importance of environment among school children. IWMA annually conducts "Young Environmental Scientist" program under the guidance of Prof T. S. Natarajan (formerly Professor at IIT-Madras, now Professor at IIT-Tirupathi) for promoting scientific research interest among school children from 8th to 12th standard from private schools as well as Corporation of Chennai Schools. Another initiative of IWMA is an "ECAP (E-Waste Collection and Awareness Program)" covering schools in the city has been taken up in partnership with CII-YI and Tes-Amm Recyclers.
