We are committed to supporting severely food insecure children, throughout Waterloo Region, with weekend and daily food packages during school breaks. The program is based on these 3 distinct pillars:Food content and quality: Food provided in weekend packages, and daily during school breaks will be healthy, culturally sensitive and provide for dietary restrictions and allergies. Access: We provide access by delivering the weekend food directly to children at their school during the school year, and to their homes during school breaks, ensuring a non-stigmatizing model of delivery.Children: Each child, 14 years and under in a family, will receive their own food package, to ensure nourishment of all children living within severely food insecure homes. We know that there are over 2,500 children throughout Waterloo Region, living with sever food insecurity. With the support of our incredible community providing volunteer and financial support we have been able to increase the numbers of vulnerable children we serve each week. We are presently feeding 579 children every weekend. CoViD 19 has created an emergency food situation with all of our children and their families. Schools are closed so the children are not able to access the additional support through other agencies on a continual basis. This has put stress on the services we provide, however, we are working to increase the daily support we provide to our children.
