We are a 501c3 non-profit organization that provides Supervised Visitation and Safe Exchange services for children and families involved in the court system due to Domestic Violence or Abuse and Neglect in McMinn, Meigs and Monroe Counties. The purpose of Family Court Services of East Tennessee is to work with the local court systems to provide a supervised safe place for children to visit with their parents when displaced through the court system, whether do to divorce proceedings, Domestic Violence or Abuse and Neglect, to provide the courts with services to help determine the disposition of children and their families and to help those children and families maintain a safe and wholesome relationship.Sometimes, based on issues of protection and safety, a judge will decide that in order for a child to have contact with a parent, a neutral third person must be present during any visitation. This type of third-person visitation arrangement is often called "supervised visitation".A judge may order supervised visitation for many reasons, like:* to give the visiting parent a chance to address specific issues,* to help reintroduce a parent and a child after a long absence,* to help introduce a parent and a child when there has been no existing relationshipbetween the parent and the child,* when there is a history or allegations of domestic violence, child abuse and neglector substance abuse;* when there are parenting concerns or mental illness; or* when there is a parental threat of abduction.
