The Trans-Tasman IP Attorneys Board (the Board) is a statutory body established under section 227A of the Patents Act 1990 and constituted under the Patents Regulations 1991. The Board administers the regulatory and disciplinary regimes for patent attorneys in Australia and New Zealand, and trade marks attorneys in Australia.The role of the Board is to:• determine the academic qualifications required to become a patent attorney in Australia and New Zealand, and a trade marks attorney in Australia• determine the knowledge requirements for patent and trade marks attorneys• accredit courses for attorneys that satisfy knowledge requirements under the regulations•provide exemptions from knowledge requirements for attorneys based on prior study• set guidelines for continuing professional education for attorneys• maintain the standards of professional conduct expected of patent and trade marks attorneys• conduct disciplinary matters including investigating complaints and commencing proceedings before the Disciplinary Tribunal
