ARCOS is a platform built on a rugged communication unit designed to collect and transmit weather data to the internet from any coffee plantage in the world. Worldwide many people are dependent on local weather conditions for their livelihoods. Availability of weather data opens up new opportunities for local farming practices and international businesses. ARCOS collects data from rainfall, solar irradiance, wind speed, wind direction, temperature and humidity. In addition, ARCOS is designed to connect multiple sensors, such as soil moisture and water level. ARCOS makes use of the Hiberband network which offers worldwide connection with Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity to 90 per cent of the world that now lacks network through its nano-satellites technology.
