In the early 1600's, green tea was only available to the royals of Japan. Kahei Yamamoto discovered that steaming tea leaves enabled them to remain fresh and green in color. By adding hot water, he produced what we now know to be sencha green tea. This sencha, became a sensation, and Yamamotoyama became a household name in Japan.The creative drive and standard of quality led generations of Yamamoto's to build the company into what it is today. In 1975, Yamamotoyama U.S.A. was established in Los Angeles, CA. To this day, Yamamotoyama is a global leader in the tea, nori seaweed and soy wrapper categories.
