Ostrich Energy Limited (OEL) was formed in 2005, in response to a requirement for safety case authorship, which was introduced under the Cullen Report, following the Piper Alpha platform disaster. OEL now comprises a Inspection, safety and risk department and a marine department. From its offices in Aberdeen United Kingdom and Lagos Nigeria, it coordinates a network and staff of marine, risk and survey professionals undertaking projects worldwide for the offshore oil and gas market. In addition to inspection, land remediation, master mariners, safety and marine engineers and naval architects, it draws on the skills of mathematicians and risk specialists.The departments carry out work for oil majors, including safety cases, ship vetting, auditing, incident investigation, safety managements systems, bow tie risk assessment, practical risk assessment workshops for managements and crews and the planning and execution of rig moves as well as undertaking technical authorships and general marine consultancy. The worldwide market has opened up to OEL as more coastal states now have a requirement for drilling companies to have safety cases.
