NYS Partners in Policymaking Training Coordinator at The Advocacy Center - Rochester, NY, US
Training Coordinator for Finger Lakes Region, Parent Resource Specialist
The Advocacy Center is the place for people with disabilities and their families to turn for information, support, and assistance getting the services they need. It's the one place they can go where the focus will be on their own personal goals, whether they are related to school, employment, independent living, or something else. We have a variety of supports and resources for people, and they can choose what they need at the time. (For example, a parent can speak with an advocate about what their child's needs in school and come up with a plan to meet those needs.) We also provide educational workshops and series of workshops to help individuals and families advocate for themselves and others and to help schools, organizations and employers become more disability-friendly and accessible to everyone. (For example, we provide disability awareness workshops in schools to help students understand what it's like to have a disability and how they can be a friend to someone who has a disability). Our vision is creating world that works for everyone. All of the services we provide have that vision in mind.
