He taught elementary, middle, and high school band, orchestra and chorus for 15 years. In 1983, he founded Bertrand's Music and opened his first store location in San Bernardino with the specific goal of supporting and enhancing music programs in public and private schools. Bertrand said "I am an educator first with the good of the individual student and overall music program in mind, in everything I do".
