The National Corn-to-Ethanol Research Center at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (NCERC at SIUE) is a nationally recognized research center dedicated to the development of biorenewables: biofuels, biochemicals, biomaterials and bioproducts. Since 2003, NCERC has grown with the biorenewables industry through a complete portfolio of services in the bioeconomy. NCERC's fully functional dry grind pilot plant and laboratories are equipped with advanced biofuels capabilities including corn fractionation, pretreatment, and a fermentation suite with 5, 30, 150 and 1500L scale-up. Facilities are staffed by industry veterans with more than 100 years of collective experience in fermentation and biofuels production. This knowledgeable team has the flexibility and expertise to design and carry out projects in any region of the advanced biofuels or specialty chemicals space. Established through federal and state initiatives, NCERC promotes rural development and economic stimulus and is providing tomorrow's workforce with the skills needed to meet the challenges of a changing energy environment. NCERC assists in developing the technologies needed to reduce U.S. reliance on foreign oil and provide consumers with economically sound and environmentally responsible fuel options. Research initiatives in renewable energy at NCERC are supported through grants, contracts and donor contributions.
