In 1951, Austin Child Guidance Center (ACGC) became Travis County's first nonprofit organization solely dedicated to children's mental health. The mission is to improve the mental health of children and their families through early intervention, diagnosis, and treatment to help them develop the emotional skills for meeting life's challenges. ACGC's services are integrated and individualized to meet each client's needs. A multidisciplinary team of a psychiatrist, psychologists, social workers, counselors, and family therapists supports clients through individual, family, and group therapy; psychological assessments; psychiatric evaluations; and parent education. Presentations and consultation are offered to a variety of collaborations, partners, and individuals throughout the community, in addition to training for 20 graduate student interns from mental health disciplines every year.
