York High is a State, English-medium, Co-Educational School nestled in the heart of the Garden Route. It has just over 900 learners and prides itself on its multi-cultural diversity.The school turned 40 in 2015 and is the only English-medium state High School between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. It has Dinaledi status which means that York is a focus school for mathematics and the sciences.York has an excellent record in academics featuring regularly amongst the highest schools on the Bachelor pass rate. It is impossible to select a Matric combination at York that does not give you a chance of obtaining a Bachelor Pass. The school is proud of the successes its alumni have achieved at several universities – most notable of these may be Dr Nathan Rose who lectures at Oxford University in Biochemistry. Subjects offered at FET level are : the core subjects of English Home Language, Afrikaans First Additional Language, Mathematics (compulsory in Grade 10), Mathematical Literacy, Life Orientation and the choice subjects of Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Accounting, Business Studies, Geography, History, Consumer Studies, CAT, Visual Arts and Music. IT and Additional Mathematics are offered as eighth subjects.
