Project Manager at California State University, Chico Formula Society of Automotive Engineers - Chico, California, United States
WHO WE AREChico State's Formula Society of Automotive Engineers (FSAE) is an international collegiate competition that designs, builds, and races a Formula One style race car each year. Formula SAE is about applying the information our members learn in their engineering classes in order to design and build a fully functional race car. Formula SAE promotes hands on knowledge and fosters student interest in the automotive industry.UNIQUE EXPERIENCESOur members are able to access state-of-the-art machine shops that boast several CNC mills and lathes. With these resources, our students are able to see first-hand how ideas are moved through the manufacturing process and how designs are improved upon. Unlike other teams, our engineering blueprints are not handed off to third-party manufacturers: this allows our team both the learning experience and the advantage of having components built exactly the way we want them built. Due to these facts, our team has been able to progress rapidly up the FSAE competition rankings. Our constantly evolving manufacturing techniques, developed through our students' hands-on experiences, has proved advantageous to the team.AFTER FSAEBesides technical skills, members of Chico State's Formula SAE learn important social skills as well. Working in an environment where teamwork is key and communication is important teaches our members what it means to be a team player. To this extent, members of Formula SAE are molded into well-rounded engineers. The various technical and interpersonal skills our members learn with us will surely help them in their ventures beyond college: be it the workforce or graduate school. Chico State's Formula SAE has quickly developed into a unique team that holds many great benefits for its members.
