Macleay Options Ltd was founded in the 1960's by a group of 4 families as a not for profit organisation, focusing then on the needs of adults with an intellectual disability both socially and educationally but also focused on employment outcomes. The organisation has grown to employ over 175 local people, including 55 adults with disabilities and continues to grow. Operating a lawn and garden maintenance business (Mowhawks), along with an industrial sewing (Threads), a woodworking and carwashing (Woodies), a Macadamia processing (Momacs) business, there is also 2 retail outlets, an online outlet, and a comprehensive support services division (Macleay Valley Connections) which offers a day program for 30 participants, School Leavers Employment support program, drop in support to over 130 individuals, and a purpose built home with 24 hour onsite care for adults with disability facilitating their ability to live independently rather than going prematurely to aged care facilities.The organisation has a high community based focus, partnering with several key community groups and businesses focusing on key areas such as employment outcomes for disadvantage groups and long term unemployed.
