Founded as the S.C. Therapeutic Association in 1962 by the Reverend Eli Alston Wilkes (a Methodist Minister), the organization's original mission was to provide rehabilitative services to adults released from correctional facilities in South Carolina. Today, the Alston Wilkes Society (AWS) is a fully accredited nonprofit organization, providing direct services throughout the Carolinas to not only offenders and former offenders; but also at-risk youth, veterans, and their families.
