A long and rich history stands behind your local United Way here in LaPorte County. It's an international history filled with compassionate people who shared a vision of a better community and found a way to pool their own individual community's resources together and then distribute them in a way that made a powerful and profound difference for those in need.In 1887, the United Way movement began in Denver, Colorado, when a woman, a priest, a rabbi, and two ministers came together to improve the conditions of their community.
