Intake Analyst and Volunteer/Intern Development at Centurion Ministries - Princeton, NJ, US
HAVE YOU EVER BEEN ACCUSED OF SOMETHING YOU DID NOT DO?Centurion seeks to free the innocent in prison. We have freed over 50 wrongfully convicted individuals, sentenced to life or death in maximum security prison for crimes they did not commit. Founded in 1983 by Jim McCloskey, Centurion was the first organization of its kind, working cases that often have no DNA or forensic evidence, requiring "boots to the ground" investigation in the field. Centurion's beneficiaries are among the estimated 5% - 10% of inmates in America who were falsely convicted. These mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters are regular people. They all thought the system would work correctly and recognize their innocence. In addition to being innocent, our clients are penniless and without hope. They have exhausted all legal appeals. Freedom can only be secured by developing new evidence sufficient to warrant a retrial.Centurion receives approximately 1600 requests for assistance annually. Each request is vetted by a small staff and a team of volunteers. There are an average 20 open cases, requiring approximately 5 to 10 years of work before our clients can have a realistic hope of freedom. We retain the very best attorneys and forensic experts to assist us in our efforts. We bear all costs, ranging between $100,000 and $500,000 per case. Additionally, few of our clients receive compensation for time spent in prison. It is up to Centurion to support them as they reenter society, a world that is suddenly unfamiliar. CM assists each exoneree in finding housing, work, and a new community.Centurion is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. We have no religious affiliation. Our fight to free the innocent in prison depends solely on the donations of individuals, foundations and religious organizations.
