As an animal welfare and veterinary charity that has been at the heart of the community for nearly 140 years, we know that the love of a dog or cat is like no other. Every year, Mayhew helps thousands of dogs, cats and people in London and overseas by delivering a broad range of animal welfare and veterinary care services. Our community vet clinic in London has been here for dogs and cats since 1925. Today we provide preventative veterinary treatments free at the point of need for pet owners who cannot afford it. In Kabul and Tbilisi, we operate two further veterinary clinics. We prevent poor animal and human health by delivering mass vaccination programmes and controlling the population of roaming dogs. We build capacity and knowledge in the veterinary profession in London, Kabul and Tbilisi through training. In the community, we offer support to dogs and cats at risk of living in low welfare environments, in poor health or of losing their home. - We keep people and pets together through our Pet Refuge service, which provides temporary shelter for the pets of people experiencing a short-term crisis. - We provide care packages for pet owners who are struggling to provide their pets with the essentials. - We work with traveller communities, people experiencing homelessness, food banks, hostels and local authorities to reach as many pet owners as we can. Our TheraPaws service improves people’s physical, social and mental wellbeing when our volunteer and therapy dog teams visit care homes, schools and hospitals. At our shelter in London, we rescue and rehome dogs and cats looking for their second chance. There they receive not only the vet and behavioural care they need, but the love and affection they deserve. Mayhew receives no government funding and relies almost entirely on donations. It is thanks to the generosity of our supporters that we can reach the thousands of dogs, cats and pet owners that need us.
