Founded in 2008, The Nebraska Writers Collective is an Omaha-based 501(c)3 non-profit organization that fosters personal empowerment and community-building in the Midwest through creative writing and performance poetry. We pursue this mission through a variety of literary outreach programs, but primarily through hands-on, interactive workshops focused on the creation and performance of original writing.NWC programming focuses on three main goals:-Mentoring New Writers-Sustaining and Retaining Established Writers-Preserving and Promoting the Work of Writers Throughout Nebraska, Western Iowa, and BeyondPrograms include:Louder Than a Bomb: Great Plains, serving thousands of students in 40+ schools throughout Nebraska and western Iowa. Hundreds then form teams to participate in the full 12-14 week program where they write, revise, rehearse, and perform original individual and group pieces.Writers On Loan, offering a variety of writing workshops ranging from traditional one-session engagements to longer programs with community groups, schools, and more.The Seven Doctors Project, accommodating the busy schedules of working professionals who rarely have time to engage in creative self-expression. Participants engage in intensive evening writing workshops in small group settings for 6-8 weeks, with a focus on the creation of publishable work. It was named for the seven physicians who participated in the inaugural session.Writers' Block, serving prisons and detention centers.
