modelEAU is the research team built around the Canada Research Chair on Water Quality Modelling that is held by Peter Vanrolleghem since February 2006. Ten graduate students, three postdocs and two research assistants carry out multifacetted studies in which models are the central ingredient. The research focus is mainly methodological, looking at data collection, data quality evaluation, development of new models and improved modelling approaches, model-based optimization and supporting software. Studies are applied to urban wastewater systems and tackle challenges such as nutrient (removal and recovery), fate of micropollutants and emissions of greenhouse gases, by developing and using mathematical models, automated monitoring stations, process control and pilot- and full-scale experiments
