Tech Enterprises is a Member-owned venture builder studio focused on launching tech sector businesses in rural post-industrial regions of Maine. Our mission is economic development in transition towns through supplying higher wage employment opportunities and attracting international revenue streams. Therefore we foster and support our inclusive and growing guild of tech entrepreneurs providing knowledge retention, practical experience, social networking, cooperative spaces, project management and secure communications. While we had previously focused on R&D of free and open source software (such as Ubuntu, phpBB3, EQDkp and Drupal) we have since matured into a virtual development/education environment putting those tools to use in supporting our lifelong learning community of practice focused on our true passion: tech entrepreneurship.A growing body of research shows that communities with high social capital, or social networks based on mutual respect, trust, cooperation and reciprocity among citizens, businesses and stakeholders, are likely to have higher educational achievement, better performing governmental institutions and less violence and crime. Ultimately social capital contributes to a more efficient means of production by describing relationships that reduce transaction costs, friction, and otherwise foster productive crowd-sourcing.While Members may incubate any business they desire the employees, volunteers and elected officials are committed to produce sustainable economic development for rural post-industrial areas of Maine. This is by supporting only business models and projects which supplement educational gaps, subsidize monetary gaps, provide higher wage employment opportunities and attract international revenue streams.By harnessing this guild and perfecting this environment we will become a force akin to Google.
