St. James Parish Hospital began serving our community in 1955 and has continued to support the River Parishes for over 50 years through its mission to provide quality, excellent and compassionate healthcare to our community.Since opening, St. James Parish Hospital has been accredited by the State of Louisiana. In 1993, we received our first Joint Commission Accreditation of Hospitals and have earned this distinction each survey since in both our hospital and laboratory. Joint Commission accreditation is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization's commitment to meeting certain performance standards.In August, 2001, St. James Parish Hospital converted to a Critical Access Hospital (CAH) as a result of the Balanced Budget Act of 1997 which incorporated legislation that created Rural Hospital Flexibility Programs. Designed to combine potentially improved reimbursement with cost savings from relaxed operating requirements, the CAH Program helps ensure financial viability for rural hospitals working to ensure adequate community access to high-quality health services.As a critical access, non-profit hospital, our 25-bed acute care medical-surgical facility offers an extensive range of inpatient and outpatient services. While comparable in scope of services to larger facilities, the hospital's smaller size allows the physicians and staff to provide personalized, quality medical services in a cost-effective manner.
