I'm fascinated to find out what drives people. I observe their behaviour, interaction and body language. This naturally leads to the moment to take the picture and if it all works out everything comes together in one image. My uncle Tijs gave me my first camera when I was fourteen. A heavy, black SLR covered with scratches and dents. Peering through his view finder during a squatters' protest march he was trampled by police, leaving marks on him and his camera. This was the camera he wanted me to have. I was impressed and understood that this serious camera which was still in perfect working order wasn't handed to me for taking simple snapshots. For me photography is the best way to capture the stories that I see and hear around me. Through my pictures I share my observations and amazement.
