FIELDGUIDES INC., founded in 1983, is a small, non-profit outdoor ed organization dedicated to teaching people to enjoy, learn about, and care for the outdoor environment. At Fieldguides Outdoor School we work with schools and youth groups to provide custom science camp and gold rush programs with a standards-based, experiential curriculum. What makes our program special is our family-style camping format. Groups camp with us in state and county parks or private campgrounds. As your field guides, we believe that an important part of the outdoor education experience is immersion - having children and chaperones sleep in tents, and cook and eat together in the great outdoors. We pride ourselves on our ability to provide our clients with a positive outdoor experience in all kinds of weather-one that the children will remember and treasure for a lifetime ! Teachers from grades K-8 choose Fieldguides Outdoor School because we provide a safe, fun, and highly educational field trip experience relevant to what students are studying in the classroom. Our program is run "family style" with FIELD GUIDES' Staff leading the way. We believe that "small is beautiful" and we strive to keep our groupings small and intimate. Our field guide:student ratio averages 1:10. Activities and chores are done by students, chaperones, and staff together in an atmosphere of cooperation and respect.
